2009/10 Household Expenditure Survey

The Household Expenditure Survey (HES) is conducted once every five years by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) to collect up-to-date information on the expenditure patterns of households in Hong Kong. The information is used together with data on price movements collected through the Monthly Retail Price Survey conducted by the C&SD to compile the monthly Consumer Price Indices (CPIs).

With the results of a new round of HES conducted in 2009/10 available, the CPIs have been rebased with reference to these results. The expenditure ranges and weighting patterns of the CPIs have also been updated. The re-based CPI series have been released on 28 April 2011.
