In recent years, there has been increasing use of statistics in both social and economic subject areas. People today are more ready to make reference to statistical information in decision-making and for better understanding of various social and economic issues. Along with this development, there has been more reporting on statistical information and related matters in the media.
To facilitate media workers in having a better understanding of the commonly available social and economic statistics thus helping them properly prepare press reports related to statistical matters, the Census and Statistics Department has been organising briefings/talks on specific statistical subjects. The target audiences are media workers including editors and reporters. We hope that from these briefings/talks media workers will get a better understanding of the coverage, definition, data collection and data computation methods in respect of specific statistical subjects. This will facilitate them in reporting on official statistics matters.
