Candidates should have :
  • a Master degree in Statistics from a university in Hong Kong, or equivalent;
OR
    • a first or second class honours bachelor's degree in Statistics from a university in Hong Kong, or equivalent; or
    • been designated as Graduate Statistician of the Hong Kong Statistical Society, or equivalent;
    • AND
    • a Master degree in Mathematics, Economics, Sociology, or a related field from a university in Hong Kong, or equivalent;
OR
    • a first or second class honours bachelor's degree in Statistics from a university in Hong Kong, or equivalent; or
    • a first or second class honours bachelor's degree with Statistics as one of the subjects taken, in Mathematics, Economics, Sociology, or a related field from a university in Hong Kong, or equivalent; or
    • been designated as Graduate Statistician of the Hong Kong Statistical Society, or equivalent;
    • AND
    • at least two years’ post-graduate experience at an appropriate level of responsibility in statistics-related work;
AND
  • a pass result in the Aptitude Test in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE); and
  • met the language proficiency requirements of ‘Level 2’ results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the CRE, or equivalent; and
  • a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test.
Mainly deployed on:
  • taking charge of a section of the department (or a statistical unit of other bureaux/departments) to drive, co-ordinate, review and integrate statistical and data science projects undertaken by the section/unit;
  • developing, organising and implementing statistical and data science projects / systems under the guidance of a Senior Statistician;
  • conducting statistical analyses and data science studies, and presenting the methods and outputs;
  • undertaking researches on key statistical and data science issues as directed by a Senior Statistician;
  • addressing the needs of data users and advising them on the interpretation and application of data for policy formulation, planning, decision making and research; and
  • supervising and providing professional guidance and coaching to statistical staff.

Note(s):

  • A recognised Master or Bachelor’s degree in programmes with substantial contents of Statistics (e.g. programmes on risk management, actuarial science, data science, data analytics) will be considered as equivalent to a Master or Bachelor’s degree in Statistics respectively.
  • Candidates are required to sit for a written examination in Hong Kong.  The result of the written examination will be used for screening in candidates for the selection interview.  The examination lasts for three hours and consists of essay-type questions (Chinese and English) to test the statistical sense, analytical ability, problem-solving skills and writing skills of the candidates.  The examination only requires minimal computation.



2. Statistical Officer II

Candidates should have :
    • an Ordinary Certificate in Statistics from the Hong Kong Statistical Society, or equivalent, with two years’ practical experience in statistical work; or
    • a Higher Certificate in Statistics from the Hong Kong Statistical Society, or equivalent; or
    • an accredited associate degree or higher diploma in Statistics, Data Science, or a related field from a recognised post-secondary institution in Hong Kong, or equivalent.
AND
  • met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, or equivalent; and
  • a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test.

(Note: Candidates who have a recognised degree or sub-degree in programmes with substantial contents of Statistics (e.g. programmes on risk management, actuarial science, data analytics) will also be considered.)

Mainly deployed on:
  • assisting in designing forms used in statistical systems and questionnaires used in censuses and surveys and selecting samples;
  • editing and coding questionnaires;
  • handling statistical computations;
  • preparing simple computer programmes and applying computer packages in statistical work;
  • compiling statistical tables and charts; and
  • assisting in analysis of statistical data.

3. Assistant Census and Survey Officer

Duties

Candidates should have :
    • Level 2 or equivalent or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent; or
    • Level 2 / Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent;

(Note: The five subjects above may include Chinese Language and English Language.)

AND
  • met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent; be able to communicate in Cantonese and Putonghua; and
  • a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test; and
  • a mature personality and be able to work independently.
Mainly deployed on:
  • collecting statistical information from respondents of surveys and censuses;
  • answering enquiries on survey matters and providing assistance to respondents in connection with the supply of information for censuses and surveys;
  • updating and maintaining plans, records and maps of survey areas;
  • assisting in the training of temporary field officers and allocation of assignments in connection with surveys and censuses; and
  • assisting in the supervision of temporary field officers.
