Census and Statistics Department Post-Secondary Student Summer Internship Programme (2026)

The Census and Statistics Department (‘the Department’) aims at providing high-quality statistical services and contributing to the social and economic developments of Hong Kong.


Objective

The Department implements a Post-Secondary Student Summer Internship Programme (‘the Programme’) annually.  The objective of the Programme is two-fold.  Firstly, it would help promote better understanding of the work of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in general and the Department in particular.  Secondly, it would give some hands-on working experience to the selected students.


Entry requirements

Applicants should fulfill the following requirements:

  1. be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment;
  2. be full-time students who are currently enrolled in full-time accredited post-secondary programmes;
  3. obtained Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalentNote(1); and
  4. have met the specific requirements for the post applied for. (see Appendix I).

Terms of employment

The employment will be offered on non-civil service terms for around 9 to 13 weeks, from early June to late August 2026 (depending on office exigencies and situation of individual participants, the actual employment period for different cases may vary).  Remuneration for participants will be $11,500 per month.  Participants are normally required to work 44 hours per week.  The exact hours of work depends on the actual operational needs.


How to apply

Students enrolled in post-secondary institutions in Hong Kong

Applicants studying in post-secondary institutions in Hong Kong (including those who are currently participating in exchange programmes at institutions outside Hong Kong) should apply through the Student Affairs Offices/Career Centres of their respective institutions.  Direct applications will not be considered.  Each applicant should apply for one post only.

Students enrolled in post-secondary institutions outside Hong Kong

Applicants studying in post-secondary institutions outside Hong Kong should submit the completed application form with a copy of their certificate of HKDSE/HKCEE, official transcript of studies and certificate of student statusNote(2) (bearing the letterhead of the post-secondary institutions they are currently enrolled in) by post/email/fax to the Department (details at “Enquiries” below) on or before the closing date for applications. Each applicant should apply for one post only.


IMPORTANT

Please quote the job title (see Appendix I) in the application form, the supporting documents and all other correspondence.

Late applications, incomplete applications, applications with unclear information and applications without required documents will NOT be considered.

To avoid delayed or unsuccessful delivery of mail items, please ensure that the address on the envelope is clear and correct and sufficient postage has been paid.  Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate.  An applicant will bear any consequences arising from not paying sufficient postage.


Schedule for selection interview

Eligible applicants may be required to attend a selection interview.  NO alternative arrangements will be made for those who fail to attend the interview, if any, and their applications will NOT be further processed.


Successful applications

Successful applicants are required to report for duty as scheduled to effect the appointment.  NO allowance will be given to appointees studying outside Hong Kong to cover their travelling expenses to and from Hong Kong or their subsistence during their stay in Hong Kong.
