At its 64th Session, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) designated 20 October as World Statistics Day (WSD) to acknowledge the importance of reliable and timely statistics to informed policy decisions.
Under the general theme "Celebrating the Many Achievements of Official Statistics", the first WSD on 20.10.2010 aimed to raise awareness of the many contributions of official statistics premised on the core values of "Service, Professionalism and Integrity".
The UN together with over 100 countries/territories and some 40 international agencies celebrated the first WSD with a variety of events and activities (e.g. conferences, exhibitions, commemorative stamps). You may wish to refer to the website dedicated for the first WSD for details (http://unstats.un.org/unsd/wsd/Events.aspx).
