Notes : Labour productivity index (LPI) is compiled by dividing a real output index by a labour input index. It shows how efficiently labour input is used for generating real output.
The real output index is compiled based on the chain volume measures of GDP. With the adoption of annually re-weighted chain linking approach for compiling the chain volume measures of GDP by economic activities, the respective series of LPIs need to be re-compiled every year and individual LPIs of the series for early years may be subject to slight change due to rounding.
Factors affecting changes in LPI include changes in technology, organisational structures, management practices and capital, etc.
Besides the above industry groupings, figures for 5 selected component industries which are major components of the industry groupings concerned are also presented in italics in the table.
Starting from 2019, LPIs have been re-referenced, taking year 2015 as the new reference period in place of the previous reference year 2000. The re-referencing from 2000 to 2015 does not affect their year-on-year rates of change contained in this statistical table.
Accommodation services sector covers hotels, guesthouses, boarding houses and other establishments providing short term accommodation.
#Provisional figures. Revised figures will be released in October 2019.
