During the period 1981-2002, Hong Kong experienced very significant
growth of trade in services, in addition to a robust growth of trade in goods.
Types of services imported/exported included transportation, travel, insurance services, financial services, merchanting and other trade-related services, and other services. This article describes the trend and structural change of trade in goods and services over this period.
In this article, the data series involving exports of travel services have been
revised to incorporate the new data released by the Hong Kong Tourism
Board in November 2003 on destination consumption expenditure of
incoming visitors and travellers. For details, please refer to the feature
article entitled "Statistics on Inbound Tourism" published in the December
2003 issue of the Hong Kong Monthly Digest of Statistics.
