The Census and Statistics Department is committed to an on-going programme of enhancing the quality, usefulness and international comparability of the national accounts statistics of Hong Kong. In September 2012, the Department has implemented the latest international statistical standards presented in the System of National Accounts 2008 in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) compilation system of Hong Kong. New data sources and enhanced estimation methods are also incorporated in the GDP compilation system where applicable. As a standard practice, the entire data series of GDP has been revised accordingly.
This article analyses the impact of this technical revision on GDP and its major components.
