International Standard Classification of Occupations, 2008 (ISCO-08)

The International Standard Classification of Occupations, 2008 (ISCO-08), adopted by a tripartite Meeting of Experts on Labour Statistics on updating the ISCO held in 2007 and endorsed by the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in 2008, provides a system for classifying and aggregating occupational information obtained by means of statistical censuses and surveys, as well as administrative records.

The ISCO-08 was first adopted by Census and Statistics Department for use in the 2011 Population Census (11C) with local adaptations. After the 11C and with some further revision, the classification was adapted for use in the 2016 Population By-census and the General Household Survey.

The ISCO-08 is a revision of the International Standard Classification of Occupations 1988 (ISCO-88), which had been adapted by the Census and Statistics Department for use since the 1991 Population Census until before the 11C.
