Entry Requirements

Candidates should –

  • have (i) Level 2 or equivalent (Note 1) or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) (Note 2), or equivalent (Note 3); or
    (ii) Level 2 (Note 4) / Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) (Note 2), or equivalent (Note 3); and
  • meet the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 (Note 4 & Note 5) or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the HKDSEE or the HKCEE, or equivalent (Note 3); and
  • be able to read and write Chinese and English; and
  • be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English.

Note:

  • For appointment purpose, “Attained with Distinction” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
  • The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.
  • Applicants who do not possess/meet the requisite qualifications and/or language proficiency requirements by the close of application period are regarded as not having met the entry requirements.
  • For appointment purpose, Grade C and Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
  • For appointment purpose, "Attained" and "Attained with Distinction" results in the Applied Learning Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) subject is accepted respectively as meeting the Chinese language proficiency requirements of Level 2 and Level 3 in Chinese Language in HKDSEE.
  • Candidates should possess basic computer operation knowledge.
  • Candidates possessing the followings will be an advantage:
    • ability to communicate in Putonghua or at least one of the following non-Chinese languages: Bahasa Indonesia, Nepali, Urdu, Punjabi, Tagalog, Thai, Hindi or Vietnamese, Bengali, Khmer, Myanmar or Sinhala; and/or
    • relevant working experience related to fieldwork in statistical surveys
Duties

Duties

The Survey Interviewers are mainly deployed to -

  • collect statistical information from survey respondents;
  • answer enquiries on survey matters and assist respondents in connection with the supply of information for surveys; and
  • perform other fieldwork related duties.

(Note: The post-holder may be required to work irregular hours and/or to undertake a substantial amount of interviewing duties, including telephone interviews and face-to-face interviews by visiting the respondents in person.)

  • Successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms up to 15 months starting from around November 2025.
  • Applicants will be appointed as Survey Interviewer on full-time or part-time basis subject to prevailing operational needs of the Department and in accordance with the merit of candidates.
  • Number of working hours may vary subject to the operation needs of the Department while those who are appointed on full-time basis will normally work for 8.8 hours daily from Monday to Friday and may work on irregular hours if required.
  • Working place(s):
    • Any office(s) of the Census and Statistics Department; and
    • Location(s) of selected survey respondents.

  • For candidates who are appointed on a full-time basis, an end-of-contract gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract and consistent standard of performance and conduct. The gratuity, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 10% of the total basic salary drawn during the period of contract; and
  • the eligibility for the annual leave, rest days, statutory holidays (or substitute holidays), maternity leave, paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with those provided for under the Employment Ordinance.

General Notes

  • Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

  • Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
