Professional Attachment Programme

The Census and Statistics Department has been collaborating with local tertiary institutions in launching the Professional Attachment Programme for students studying statistics and related disciplines since 2001.  The programme, which takes place during the school summer vacation every year, provides students with practical experience in official statistical work and helps motivate potential candidates to develop their statistical careers with the department.

Students participating in the programme will be deployed to different sections of the department to carry out statistical work (e.g. statistical analysis and research) on specified areas of official statistics under direct supervision of statistical professional officers.  Each year, about 30 students from various tertiary institutions participate in the programme.  During the attachment period, a familiarisation programme is organised for the students in order to enhance their understanding about the work of the department.  At the end of the attachment period, the students are also invited to attend an experience sharing session chaired by Directorate staff of the department.

Students joining the 2024 round of the Professional Attachment Programme attended the familiarisation programme.

Students joining the 2024 round of the Professional Attachment Programme attended the experience sharing sessions chaired by the Commissioner for Census and Statistics, Mr Leo YU.
