Protection of Personal Data Privacy

The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) has been strictly enforcing various measures on protection of privacy and data security to ensure that information collected in the surveys regarding individuals or individual establishments will be kept in strict confidence and used for statistical purposes only.  The general public can feel secure in providing data to us, for compiling relevant and accurate statistics.  The statistics will be used by the Government as references when formulating public policies, and also be used by various sectors of society.  The public can thus contribute together to the social and economic development of Hong Kong by this means.

C&SD fully complies with the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.  We attach great importance to personal data privacy and data security, and adopt multiple layers of security measures to protect survey data from unauthorised access, including the formulation of security policies and procedures, the use of technology and the promotion of security awareness among staff.  C&SD will continue to enhance personal data privacy and data security to ensure that survey data are strictly protected.
