Brand New “Theme Navigation” and “Feature Articles” Webpages Launched!

Data is often the key to grasp the pulse of a city. Whether you are keeping up with the latest development in Hong Kong’s social and economic landscape, or conducting research and analysis on a specific topic, being able to quickly and accurately pinpoint relevant data will make your work and study more efficient!

However, some users who are visiting the website of the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD Website) for the first time may feel a bit overwhelming when facing the vast volume of data available there. To ensure that all users can have a smoother and more hassle-free data exploration experience, we have optimised the interface of C&SD Website and launched the new “Theme Navigation” and “Feature Articles” webpages to help them easily lock onto the required information from the sea of data.

New “Theme Navigation” webpage — towards a more intuitive data experience

Clear webpage guidance is especially important for users to search for specific data. Therefore, we have overhauled the overall browsing flow to help you grasp quickly the key figures and explore further information under various statistical themes!

1. Optimised navigation for major themes, with highlights clear at a glance

We have introduced a new “Theme Navigation” webpage to improve the layout of the existing “All Themes” (formerly “Statistics - By Subject”) webpage. It now features vibrant and representative illustrations to help you swiftly identify different major statistical themes on C&SD Website. You simply need to click on the statistical theme illustration or use the navigation panel on the left side of the page to jump straight from the navigation page to the dedicated pages of individual statistical themes.

2. Statistical theme page: key data, clearly presented

Through a series of new statistical theme pages, you can understand the scope of various major themes more easily. The latest key figures and main statistical tables are presented together on the same page, allowing you to get hold of the latest trend of the core statistics of the theme quickly. To delve deeper, you may also click the “More” button next to a statistical theme to jump directly to the relevant webpage for more detailed information, in which you can find more related statistical tables and statistical reports. Selected statistical themes also offer interactive dashboards to help users understand information on related statistical themes in a vivid manner.

New “Feature Articles” webpage — focused display, easy browsing

If you want to have a deeper understanding of the social and economic context behind the data, the newly designed “Feature Articles” webpage would be your best assistant. The new webpage collates in-depth analytical articles that are used to be scattered across different pages of C&SD Website, and adds the following practical features:

• Filter by statistical theme: the new webpage features a filtering function, allowing you to directly select the statistical themes of interest and pick the feature articles you need.
• Personal bookmarks: when you see a feature article which is useful for your work or research, you can simply click the “Add to bookmarks” icon next to the article to save it to your personal bookmarks. By clicking the “Bookmark(s)” button above the filter panel, you can access your saved articles at any time.
