Abstract

This publication is the thirty-sixth issue in a series of Special Topics Reports. It presents the results of two special topic enquiries conducted via the General Household Survey during April to June 2003 viz. (1) The enquiry "Casual employment" : presenting information on the characteristics and employment situation pertaining to casual employees (i.e. employees who were employed by an employer on a day-to-day basis or for a fixed period of less than 60 days); and (2) The enquiry "Self-employment" : presenting information on the characteristics of self-employed persons and their situation (including working experience and job-seeking experience, if any) prior to their becoming self-employed. Self-employed persons covered in this enquiry referred to those persons who, in their main employment, worked for profit or fees in their own business/profession and were neither employed by someone nor employing others.
