Abstract

This full-colour publication is an informative and handy guide to Hong Kong's development over the past 35 years through the succinct presentation of statistical charts. Collecting some 140 statistical charts in bilingual format, it provides a fascinating insight into the many changes in the whole fabric of Hong Kong’s society.

The charts are grouped into 16 sections, covering various social and economic aspects, from population, education, health, housing to commerce and industry and economic performance; just to name a few. All data are sourced from government departments and relevant organisations.

Each chart carries a caption summarizing the key progress Hong Kong has made. For each statistical series presented in the chart, figures for the latest and beginning years are labelled therein, letting readers better understand the current state and that years ago, in addition to the trend exhibited.

Also available are definitions of technical statistical terms to facilitate understanding of the relevant statistics.

Purchasers are advised to take note of the large file size of the download version of this publication. While split versions (comprising 8 separate files of about 5-6 MB each) are available to facilitate downloading, it would still take a long time to download the entire publication under a dial-up Internet connection of 56Kbps.
