Abstract

This article analyses the port cargo statistics of Hong Kong during the period from 2001 to 2006. The port of Hong Kong is a hub of the Asia-Pacific region. Hong Kong's port cargo throughput increased by 4% from 230 million tonnes in 2005 to 238 million tonnes in 2006. The port cargo movements between Hong Kong and the mainland of China accounted for 40% of Hong Kong's port cargo throughput in 2006. Furthermore, about 76% of these Mainland-Hong Kong port cargo movements were between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region.
