| Abstract |
| The container throughput of the port of Hong Kong increased by 4% from 22.6 million TEUs in 2005 to 23.5 million TEUs in 2006, maintaining its status as the largest container port serving southern China and one of the busiest ports in the world. Laden container movements between Hong Kong and the mainland of China (the Mainland) accounted for 37% of the laden container throughput of the port of Hong Kong in 2006. Furthermore, about 74% of these Mainland-Hong Kong laden container movements were between Hong Kong and the ports in the Pearl River Delta region. This article analyses the container statistics of the port of Hong Kong during the period 2001-2006. |
