The department operates the Service Centre on Trade Statistics where users can obtain detailed external merchandise trade statistics which may not be available in publications. Merchandise trade statistics at the most detailed level analysed in Hong Kong Harmonized System (HKHS) and Standard International Trade Classification (SITC) commodity items, and country/territory are accessible at the Centre.
To enable users to retrieve merchandise trade statistics in a more efficient and convenient way, the Centre is installed with a computerised interactive data retrieval system. Services and functions of this computer system include:

Provision of standard tables containing frequently asked merchandise trade statistics; |

Production of tailor-made tables containing merchandise trade statistics tabulated based on specified requirements of users; and |
|
Keyword searching for commodity codes (HKHS and SITC) and country/territory codes. |
Apart from obtaining merchandise trade statistics using the computer system at the Centre, users may also peruse merchandise trade statistics disseminated in the following means:

Computer Output Microfiches containing historical merchandise trade statistics at the most detailed level; and |

Computer printouts containing those detailed merchandise trade statistics which are most frequently asked by the public. |
Perusal and hand-copying of merchandise trade statistics accessible at the Centre is free of charge, while print version or softcopy of trade data on diskettes are provided at a fee.
