The Commissioner for Census and Statistics, Mr Fung Hing-wang, held a press conference on Thursday (July 6) to announce arrangements for the 2006 Population By-census.  The purpose of the By-census is to obtain up-to-date benchmark information on the size and socio-economic characteristics of the population and on its geographical distribution. The information will be important for outlining the development blueprint of Hong Kong.  Also present at the press conference were the Deputy Commissioner for Census and Statistics, Mr. Dominic Leung; and the Assistant Commissioner for Census and Statistics (Social), Miss Chan Ka-lin.
