The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) jointly organised a public seminar on "Widening the Scope of General Knowledge Recognising the Fallacies of Statistics" with the Hong Kong Statistical Society, the Education Bureau and the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science of the Hong Kong University on 20.10.2010 at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as part of Hong Kong's cerebrations of the first World Statistics Day.
Apart from highlighting the gist of sample surveys and their theoretical framework, the seminar also touched upon the collection and applications of statistics from the perspectives of data users, the academia and government statisticians.

Some 200 participants attended the public seminar, including 150 secondary school teachers and tertiary students, and 50 academic staff from tertiary institutions and statistical practitioners. |
