Two CD-ROM products, called "TAB on CD-ROM" and "MAP on CD-ROM", are released today (May 31) by the Census and Statistics Department.

The TAB on CD-ROM, containing 372 commonly used statistical tables, presents the results of the 2001 Population Census in detail. The tables cover a wide range of topics including demographic, household, education, economic, housing, internal migration and home moving, and population sub-group characteristics of the households and population in Hong Kong. There are also geographical breakdown of the statistics by District Council District/Constituency Area and Tertiary Planning Unit/Street Block in selected tables.

Each table in the TAB on CD-ROM is provided in two forms: a file form for viewing and printing, and a data set form for computation. Users can easily retrieve the data and re-compile them in a format that will meet their own needs. This TAB on CD-ROM is a handy tool for everyday work, study and research.

Apart from the TAB on CD-ROM, the MAP on CD-ROM is also produced by the Census and Statistics Department to provide a set of digital maps of Hong Kong in commonly used formats. When used with suitable computer software, these digital maps can be used for geographical presentation of the statistical data contained in the TAB on CD-ROM.

The TAB on CD-ROM, with separate Chinese and English versions, is available at $1,690 per set. For the MAP on CD-ROM, it is in bilingual form and is available at $840 per set. These CD-ROM products can be purchased in person from the 2001 Population Census Office, Census and Statistics Department, 7/F, Kai Tak Multi-storey Carpark Building, 2 Concorde Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong and the Publications Unit, Census and Statistics Department, 19/F Wanchai Tower, 12 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

Internet users may purchase the products online at the "Statistical Bookstore, Hong Kong" with payment made instantly. The products purchased will be delivered by registered mail. The Statistical Bookstore is hosted on the ESD portal together with other public services.

Users may also order the products through mail order. The mail order form is available for downloading from the website of the Department. It may be completed and sent back together with a cheque or bank draft covering all necessary cost and postage.
