The 2001 Population Census fieldwork was completed on March 27. In order to provide information for evaluating the Census results, the Census and Statistics Department will conduct a Post Enumeration Survey from April 9 to May 4. The conduct of such survey follows standard international practices for evaluating census results. A random sample of 15 000 quarters will be re-visited by regular field staff of the Department. Households and persons living in the selected quarters will be enumerated. Census Officers from the Department will re-visit the selected quarters in person to collect some simple information. Visits will take place between 9 am and 10 pm during the survey period. The Department is sending out letters to the selected households for the Post Enumeration Survey, informing them of the names of the Census Officers who will visit them during the specified period. Each Census Officer will carry a Government Identity Card and a certificate issued by the Department authorising them to conduct the Survey. Households are reminded to check carefully the identity of Census Officers before allowing the Census Officers to enter their premises. The Post Enumeration Survey is conducted as voluntary statistical survey under Part IIIA of the Census and Statistics Ordinance (Laws of Hong Kong, Chapter 316). In accordance with this Ordinance, information pertaining to individual persons or households will be treated in strict confidence and will not be released to any other persons or organisations (including Government departments) outside the Census and Statistics Department. Households that have queries about the Survey or the identity of the Census Officer may call the Census and Statistics Department at 2926 6688. |
