"Hong Kong 2001 Population Census Main Report", compiled based on the results of the 2001 Population Census, is published today (July 9).

The "Main Report" consists of two separate volumes: Volume I presents detailed analysis and interpretation of the results of the 2001 Population Census of specific topics on the demographic, household, education, economic and housing characteristics of the population. A general account of findings in respect of various topics is provided together with supporting tables and charts. Comparisons are made with results of the past censuses/by-censuses as appropriate. Volume II describes the design, data collection method and operation procedures of the Census. An assessment of the data quality is also given in Volume II.

A vast amount of information has been collected in the Census. Results of the Census are available in a number of publications, including reports containing data at district level, that have been released. Another report "Main Tables", which will be published shortly, contains detailed tables on the population, households and quarters in the whole territory and serves as a complement to this report. There are also a series of thematic reports on population sub-groups like youths, elderly and single parent families.
