In 2011, Hong Kong residents made a total of 72.8 million person-trips to the mainland of China for business and personal purposes. Of all the trips to the mainland of China, business travel accounted for 33% while personal travel constituted 67%.
Analyses of consumption expenditure of Hong Kong residents making personal travel to the mainland of China were first introduced in a feature article in the April 2001 issue of this Digest. Updates of the analyses are provided annually in this publication. This article presents analyses of the latest trend of cross-boundary travel of Hong Kong residents and the consumption expenditure of Hong Kong residents making personal travel to the mainland of China.
