The International Standard Classification of Education, 2011 (ISCED-2011) was adopted by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) General Conference at its 36th session in November 2011. Initially developed by UNESCO in the 1970s, and first revised in 1997, the ISCED classification serves as an instrument to compile and present education statistics both within nationally and internationally.
The ISCED-1997 is being used for the classification of educational attainment in household surveys with local adaptations. The ISCED-2011 will be first adapted for use in the 2016 Population By-census with local adaptations.
